Summary: Athena loses something. At least it wasn't found by the wrong (or right person).
“It’s missing!”
“What’s missing,” said Trucy suddenly, popping out of nowhere seemingly.
“Um, nothing, Trucy.”
“Well, I hope you find it” she said, before disappearing.
Trucy is more insightful than most people give her credit for, Athena thought.
“Where is it, where is it…”
“Is something missing, Athena?”
“Um, nothing” Athena said quickly.
Apollo looked doubtfully at her. Athena groaned, of course Apollo can read her body language. “It’s nothing to trouble you with, Apollo!”
“I’ll ask again in an hour if it isn’t resolved, then” he said. “Let me just finish looking up that thing Mr. Wright asked me to, then I’ll come back and help.”
She sighed though she was inwardly pleased. “All right, Apollo.”
“No problem,” he said, his smile bright before he ducked into the other room.
***
“Oh, hello Detective Gumshoe. What? You need us to go down to the station? Why?”
Apollo tensed. Every time Mr. Wright received that kind of call, one of them would get accused of a crime. He glanced at Athena, who looked confused and was fidgeting, her eyes darting around the room. She must still be looking for that thing she lost, he thought.
“Athena? What about Athena? She’s been here all day working with Apollo and I.”
Athena bolted upwards and ran over to Mr. Wright.
“Ah, okay. It’s that kind of thing. Well, we can go down immediately, so it won’t be a problem. Right, see you later.”
****
“Ah, so you must own this” said Detective Gumshoe. “Was wondering if it was Mr. Wright’s but thought a yellow wallet might be a bit odd on him.”
“Athena won’t need to testify, right?”
Gumshoe shook his head. “She didn’t know she had been stolen from, so probably not. This is pretty much an open and shut case anyway, since there are recordings of the crime since he robbed someone in a convenience store.”
***
Athena exhaled as she looked at the wallet in her hand. It was a good thing that it had been found, she thought. When she got home, she would scan this photo so that if her wallet got stolen again, she’d at least have a digital copy of it.
“I’m glad it was found,” said Apollo, sitting down next to her.
“Yeah, me too” she said, aware of how near Apollo was.
“Was the money that got stolen a lot? If it was, um, I could-“
She shook her head rapidly. “Um, it’s okay, there wasn’t that much in here anyway, just about 20 dollars. I left my ATM card and credit card at home today, so I don’t need to cancel those.”
“That’s a relief,” Apollo said. “So why was it so important?”
“Um,” she couldn’t stop herself from blushing. “Just this photo in it, you know.”
“A photo? Of what?” He opened the wallet to find a picture taken after the case that had set both Simon and Athena free.
“Oh, Athena-“
***
Athena smiled as she pulled out another photo from behind the photo Apollo had seen, one of Apollo himself. At least he hadn’t seen this, she thought.
