"You wanted that?"
"Yes," Crystal said absentmindedly, her head buried in a book. "Please get it, it's important."
"All right," he said, slightly miffed that she wasn't looking at him. "Where do you want it?"
"Over there," Crystal said, pointing to the couch nearby.
"Okay," he said, reaching for the box. It was heavy, but Gold could handle it. He started walking to the couch.
"Gold, be careful-"
"Of what?"
"The wire that you might trip over-"
Gold wished she had said that at least how many seconds earlier because it was at this time that he spectacularly tripped over the said cord she was about to warn him.
***
"Ouch-" Gold groaned as he rubbed his head. That hurt. Did he seriously black out for a while back there?
Crystal was sitting next to him, her eyes filled with worry as she checked him over for other injuries. "Gold, answer me, are you hurt? Wait, don't answer that. How many fingers am I holding up?"
He grinned goofily up at her. Hmm, maybe this could work to my favor, he thought. "I'll answer you when you tell me your name, cutie?"
It was amusing to see her face turn red from embarrassment then see her eyes narrow in consternation in what seemed like supersonic speeds.
"WH-WHAT?!"
***
"Gold has amnesia," Crystal said softly to Silver, whose eyes were concerned as he looked at her.
"Really?" Silver's voice was disbelieving. Gold didn't blame him, but well, that's because-
"He tripped over a cord earlier in the lab and Professor Oak's file on the you know what hit his head.
He saw Silver grimace. What was the you know what, Gold wondered, and why does Silver know about it when he didn't?
"Crystal, my head hurts" Gold said as feebly as he could.
She looked guiltily back at him. "Do you want the medicine?"
"Please," he said weakly.
"Of course, give me a moment. I'll leave you with Silver - he's one of our friends and he's also a fellow Pokedex Holder."
"All right," he said as cheerfully as possible. Crystal's eyes softened as they looked at him, something so rare he wondered if he was dreaming, then she left.
"Hey, my name is Gold" he said quickly. "What's yours?"
Silver looked at him incredulously. "You know damn well who I am, Gold."
"What do you-"
"Gold," Silver said menacingly.
He rubbed his head. "I guess I can't hide it from you, huh, Silver?"
"Of course you can't," Silver said. "You think you can fool me?"
"Nah, but I wanted to try."
Silver shook his head exasperatedly. "So why are you making Crystal believe that you have amnesia?"
"I-"
"Don't you know how worried she is about you? She called me, half-frantic with worry and guilt and pleaded with me to come and help her find a way to give you back your memories, Gold! Of course I came back, but then to find out you've been-"
Gold shushed him frantically. "Silver, buddy!"
"Explain."
Gold's eyes landed on the door that Crystal had disappeared through. "I- I was jealous, okay?"
"Jealous?"
"Yeah," he said weakly. This was uncool, but he owed Silver an explanation. "She's been so busy and Professor Oak is asking so much of her that she hardly gets out of the lab now, you know? At least now she's far away from that-"
"Taking care of you," Silver said, his voice flat.
"I-" Gold knew he sounded pathetic. "Well, I guess you're going to tell her?"
Silver shook his head. "No, I'll leave that to you. But if you push this too far and too long, Gold-"
"I won't."
"Then make it count."
